Children’s Sermon –

Litany of the Water

We are a people familiar with water. We have heard water flowing before, in a great waterfall, a gentle drip, crashing waves, powerful tides. We have seen water flowing when a tap is turned on, when a vessel is poured and when a community is ravaged. Sometimes we question, yet we know that God is in the water.

We give thanks with joy and celebration all those who have returned safely home. We remember families who have lost loved ones to the waters of this world, and we remember with love, all those who have served their final watch.

God gives us water. Water that springs forth from creation. Water that wells up for eternal life. Water that, with joy, we draw from the wells of love and life.

The water that springs, the water that wells, and the water we draw quenches our thirst.

Almighty God, We give you thanks for the spirit that moved over the waters. We remember the deliverance of Noah, his family and your people Israel. We give thanks for the gift of water that sustains life, that anoints, that baptizes and that makes us heirs of the promise and servants of all. Shower us with your spirit and renew all of our lives with your forgiveness, grace and love. Amen.

Word

First Lesson – Genesis 1:1-20

Psalm – Psalm 23 (Mariner’s Version)

The Lord is my Pilot, I shall not drift.

He lighteth me across the dark

waters; He steereth me in the deep channels.

He keepeth my log. He guideth me by the

star of His holiness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I sail mid the thunders

and tempests of life, I shall dread no danger, for

Thou are with me; Thy love and Thy care they

shelter me.

Thou preparest a harbour for me in the

homeland of eternity. Thou anointest the waves with

oil. My ship rideth calmly.

Surely sunlight and starlight shall

favour me on the voyage I take.

And I will rest in the port of God forever.

Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be world without end.

Second Lesson – Romans 6:1-11

*Gospel Acclamation – p. 103

Gospel Reading – Mark 4:35-41

Sermon

*Hymn of the Day – I Feel The Wind Of God

I feel the winds of God today

Today my sail I lift

Though heavy oft with drenching spray

And torn with many a rift

If hope but light the waters crest

And Christ my bark will use

I’ll seek the seas at his behest

And brave another cruise.

*Continues on Reverse

It is the wind of God that dries

My vain regretful tears

Until with braver thoughts shall rise

The purer, brighter years

If cast on shores of selfish ease

Or pleasure I should be

Lord, let me feel thy freshening breeze,

And I’ll put back to sea.

If ever I forgot thy love

And how that love was shown

Life high the blood red flag above

It bears thy name alone.

Great pilot of my onward way,

Thou wilt not let me drift.

I feel the winds of God today;

Today my sail I lift.
