WORSHIP NOTE Martin Luther considered congregational hymns to be a vital part of the liturgy. Lutheran hymns in North America came from various European traditions - probably Danish first, then Dutch, Swedish, German and finally English. Our 100th Anniversary Committee has chosen hymns to be the focus of celebration for the month of March. Each Sunday, the service will feature one new, or somewhat unfamiliar hymn. Today’s first hymn has been sung in the past by the choir. The text and tune were written by Canadian clergy Peter Davison (b. 1936 in Montreal) and the musical arrangement is by Canadian George Black (1931-2003). The hymn was originally written for a convention of the Royal Canadian College of Organists in 1981, in London, Ontario. It has appeared in collections in Canada, the United States and England.
