Rev. Dr. Munib Younan, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL). Bishop Younan is a leader in building bridges between Christians, Muslims, and Jews and in witnessing to peace with justice for all people, both Palestinian and Israeli, and including Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Bishop Younan was consecrated as the third Palestinian Bishop of the ELCJHL in 1998. Educated in both Palestine and Finland, Bishop Younan has been active in the Middle East Council of Churches, the Lutheran World Federation and the Fellowship of the Middle East Evangelical Churches (FMEEC). Bishop Younan made the first translation of the Augsburg Confession into Arabic and was a key initiator of several dialogue initiatives among the three monotheistic religions in the Holy Land. At present he is Vice President of the Lutheran World Federation from the Asia Region, the President of the FMEEC and president of the Board of Managers of the International Christian Committee (ICC) of Jerusalem, serving with the three patriarchs and nine other bishops of Jerusalem. He is also Board Chairperson for the Augusta Victoria Hospital. Bishop Younan will speak on the challenges and the necessity of building peace in a land called Holy by three great faiths.
